Shirakawa Go tours at a glance
Shirakawa Go tours fall into a few clear types. Most are day trips by coach from a nearby city: Kanazawa, Takayama or Nagoya. The village has no train station, and a tour takes care of the bus, the timing and often a guide. A tour is not required. You can also take the scheduled bus and walk the village alone, and the rest of this page helps you decide which fits your day.
Time is the main difference. A morning guided tour from Kanazawa lasts about 5 hours, a full bus day that adds Takayama is around 8 hours, and a day tour from Nagoya runs about 10 hours. Look at the start point of each tour as well, because the same village can mean a very different morning depending on where you begin.

Our picks: Shirakawa-go guided tours and coach days
For a short visit, the Kanazawa morning tour is enough, and for Takayama as well the coach day fits. The day from Takayama is a walking programme, while the Nagoya tour is a long ten-hour day.

Shirakawa go day trip from Kanazawa
The widest choice of start times.
Kanazawa has the most tours in this list. The morning tour of about 5 hours comes with an English guide, audio headsets in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Ukrainian, an air-conditioned bus and free Wi-Fi on board. Hotel pickup is not included, and food and drinks are extra. A longer bus day of about 8 hours visits Ogimachi and the old town of Takayama, with free time in Takayama. Lunch is not included, and no guide is listed.
Another option is a day trip with a bilingual guide in English and Spanish. The entrance to Kenrokuen Garden is included only if you pick that option, and the length changes with the option. A bus tour listed with a Hida cuisine set menu also starts in Kanazawa. Read the page on Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go for fares and timing if you prefer to travel on your own.
Takayama and Shirakawago tours
The shortest bus ride to the village.
From Takayama the Nohi bus needs about 50 minutes, so a day trip leaves plenty of time on both ends. The guided day trip from Takayama includes round-trip transport from Takayama, a guide, entry to Takayama Jinya, a walking tour of Shirakawa-go and a 1.5 hour walking tour of Takayama. Lunch is not included. If you go without a tour, the single bus fare is 2,800 yen and rises to 2,900 yen from 1 December 2026, with some departures marked as reservation only.
Our page on Takayama and Shirakawago lists the bus and the tours side by side.
Nagoya to Shirakawa-go tours
Longer days, a direct bus.
Nagoya is the farthest of the three start cities. One day tour of about 10 hours uses an air-conditioned bus with an English and Chinese speaking guide, and lunch is part of it only if you select the meal option. The direct highway bus from the Meitetsu Bus Center takes about 3 hours, and the adult fare is 3,600, 3,800, 4,000, 4,200 or 4,700 yen depending on the date category. See Nagoya to Shirakawa-go for the fare steps and booking window.

Small details that matter.
Check the meeting point first. Tours that begin in Kanazawa, Takayama or Nagoya use different spots, and some offer several start points depending on the option you choose. Then check the includes. Hotel pickup, lunch, entry tickets and guide languages vary from tour to tour, and optional extras apply only if you select them while booking. Finally, think about the season: in winter, snow can slow roads, and in busy periods the bus can be crowded. For a first visit, a walk of 2 to 3 hours in the village fits most day tours.
Prices on the cards are shown in US dollars and are per person. The yen figures in the text are for fares and parking, not for tours. For a plan that starts at the village itself, begin with our Shirakawa Go overview.
